How do ya feel about Quake 1 and Quake 2? :3

Haven't played much of Quake 2, it looks... A bit boring?

As for Quake 1, it's... Neat, but I can't help the feeling it's just 'Doom but 3D'. It doesn't help that the series' history is so similar. "Oh, we got 2 games that are violence simulators about a soldier going to kill demons from Hell or Lovecraftian Hell, then a story-heavier horror game then went to sleep for 10 years and we were well known for deathmatch multiplayer."
At least Quake was born with Action Horror at it's roots. Maybe a modern interperetation could try and perfect what Doom 3 was trying to do.
I don't like it's enemies as much as Doom's, partially because of the, "It's 3D now so we can't stick 100 monsters in a level, let's make them all spongy." A lot of them also just aren't as interesting, but it did make for some fun DM gameplay whenever I play.
I'm surprisingly good at it, actually. Though that may be because I have 4K hours in TF2, which is - by all practicality - the most modern Quake game behind Champions.

I've done a lot of bitching about Quake, lemme say some good.
I don't know if this is a hot take, but the 90's metal of Doom hasn't aged to well, I believe. I don't remember the vast majority of songs in those two games, those soundtracks were at their bests with Sign of Evil and The Demon's Dead.
Then we get Doom 64 which is a bit more atmospheric, the songs that are trying to be badass are a bit more rare and they're allowed to stand out more. It helps that 64's theme is actually really badass.
Then we got Quake.
I think that game has the most badass theme song of an ID Software game ever, and these are the guys who got Mick Gordon as a composer.
And compared to Doom 64, Quake's atmospheric music is pretty special.

I can't be too bothered the series has gone dormant, though. Everyone thought Dark Ages was going to be a Quake game and considering how I've always felt there isn't nearly enough distinction between them, sure. Quake lives on through Doom, unless they're going to do something Doom isn't with future Quake games, I can be happy with them being one in the same.
